As a Regulator, Lead, Accreditation, Verification and Standards Setting Body, we have a responsibility for Maintaining Standards and Improving Confidence. We work with other Organisations such as Skills for Health on the setting of Healing National Occupational Standards.
Why we set Standards:
We need to make sure the standards are consistent and understand that the Public may not trust those standards without independent assurance. To provide minimum standards for the Voluntary Self-Regulation of Healers by defining the standards by which their knowledge base, practice and professional and ethical accountability can be measured.
We Regulate Standards because:
Without regulation, users may be tempted to choose qualifications for the wrong reasons (for example because users think they may be easier)
Without regulation, organisations might be tempted to compromise on quality for commercial reasons.
External pressures may affect confidence in qualifications.
The public needs to be assured that standards are being maintained.
In the Government response to the House of Lords Select committee on Science and Technology’s report on Complementary and Alternative Medicine 2001, it was recommended by the Government that Complementary Therapies organisations should develop Voluntary systems of Self-Regulation and should consequently agree a set of standards to regulate each profession. The Report separates this complex range of disciplines into three groups. Healing is within Group 2 which consist of those therapies 'that most clearly complement conventional medicine'. Group 2 therapies include Aromatherapy, the Alexander Technique, Massage, Counselling, and Stress Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Reflexology, Meditation and Healing. BAHA chose to follow the single regulatory route believing that its uniqueness required specific standards which would sustain the essence of Healing as well as safeguarding the public.
Background :
The British Alliance of Healing Associations (BAHA) is a Registered Charity, Regulatory Body and an Umbrella Organisation, which is open to Spiritual Healing Organisations and provides Spiritual Healing Training courses. BAHA also carries out Accreditation, Assessment and Verification of Healing Courses.
The British Alliance of Healing Association are a dynamic force within the Healing Movement today with over 45 Member Associations and over 3,000 Members.
BAHA were Founder Members of UK Healers and are working towards the Unification of the Healing Movement.
